From single piece to production: how rapid prototyping is changing the world

Rapid prototyping for some still is an unknown world to discover.

In the early 2000s those who used rapid prototyping technology had two needs:

  1. Realize a detail in a very short time
  2. Bring down the cost of equipment for the production of the pieces

Today things have changed a lot!

Rapid prototyping and in particular additive manufacturing technologies have marked a turning point not only in prototyping but also in production. The emergence of new technologies and the availability of any type of material: plastic, metal, rigid or flexible allows to achieve definitive productions with the use of 3D printing.

Let's look at the benefits of the major additive manufacturing technologies on the market.

FDM Technology uses the same tried and tested thermoplastics found in traditional manufacturing processes.

For applications that demand tight tolerances, toughness and environmental stability – or specialized properties like electrostatic dissipation, translucence, biocompatibility, VO flammability or FST ratings – there’s an FDM thermoplastic that can deliver.

The HP Jet Fusion 3D printing solution reinvents how you prototype and produce functional parts, delivering quality output, up to 10 times faster1 at half the cost.

HP Multi Jet Fusion uses a fine-grained PA 12 material that allows for ultra-thin layers of 80 microns. This leads to parts with high density and low porosity, compared to PA 12 parts produced with Laser Sintering. It also leads to an exceptionally smooth surface straight out of the printer, and functional parts need minimal post-production finishing. That means short lead times, ideal for functional prototypes and small series of end-parts.

DMILS Through the innovative LaserCUSING® printing process 3d metals, it is possible to construct pieces of any geometrical shape in different types of Steel, Aluminum, Titanium, Inconel and precious alloys, reaching a density of proximate material to 100% and hardnesses up to 54 HRC .

The Concept Laser additive manufacturing can be applied in any field but in particular it is suitable for the following sectors: Molds, Dental and Medical, Goldsmith, Automotive, aeronautic.

So are you ready for change? So try to think additive even for your productions

The future of Additive manufacturing:

Yesterday afternoon we ended our tour of appointments in our 3 major reference cities: Milan, Modena and Turin.

This time again it was a unique opportunity to present our company to those who do not know us yet and to strengthen the relationship with those who have worked with us for so long.

During the three days we have heard important characters in the 3D printing world such as Professor Marinella Levi of the Politecnico of Milan, Davide Ferrulli of Hp, our General manager Italo Moriggi and many others that I take the opportunity to thank publicly.

We communicate every day on the web through our social channels, our site on the advertising pages and much more but there is nothing to do, the human relationship is still important today more than ever.

The theme of the workshop was to highlight the benefits of additive manufacturing that in the last year grew exponentially due to the arrival on the market of the first 3D printer produced by Hp, a company that has always been the market leader for the sale of printers and PCs today it is also the world's leading 3D printing company.

Who is Skorpion Engineering and what it does?

We are a company that knows all the secrets of additive manufacturing and for this reason we can always guide our customers to the choice of technology that best suits their needs.

We are not a service like everyone else, we do not just print a piece and deliver it to the customer but we follow it from design to product finishing and assembly.

We in the house all not only additive but also traditional technologies such as milling, laser cutting, painting and this is precisely our strength, that's what allows us to be winners!

How do we see the future? The additive manufacturing will not only be used to make prototypes and presets but will be a faster and less expensive production system that is already shrinking the time to market at the supplain chain and the level of customization of each product.

One last point that affected our audience was the theme of weighing weights made possible by the design in additive optics combined with additive production.

If you are interested in our workshops send us your mail and you can be our guest!

200 pieces in 7 hours

5 reasons why it is more advantageous to produce additives compared to traditional production technologies

The rapid prototyping market is growing and has been the first market to discover the enormous benefits of 3D printing.

Today, the real breakthrough is in producing definitive pieces with additive technologies.

5 reasons why 3D printing is convenient

  1. No equipment costs
  2. Production speed
  3. Reduction of costs
  4. Ability to make changes to mathematics without interrupting production
  5. Replacement of parts to be assembled since it is possible to rethink and produce them in one piece.

Today I want to tell you a real case, about a month ago we were contacted by a company for the realization of 200 parts to be assembled on a piece of production.

The customer had the following requirements:

  • Good mechanical properties
  • Good repeatability between the pieces
  • Low costs

Thanks to Jet Fusion Hp technology, the parts were produced in just 7 hours and only 2 days passed from the customer's request to delivery

The characteristics of the parts produced with the jet fusion technology hp are comparable to a piece of production and shows the fact that many components of the printer itself were produced with jet fusion technology, with the following advantages:

  • Elimination of the mold
  • Realization of functional pieces
  • Reduction of production times and costs
